Alaska, 2022

  30 June - 18 July

We are doing something different this summer, and will not be offering the multiple camping, backpacking, bikepacking, and mountain bike trips all summer long (it's been 14 years of such activities!).  This summer we plan a single - and epic - trip to Alaska.  Let us know ASAP if you are interested!

General planning notes:

-Campers arrive in Anchorage on 30 June to link up.  We will do airport pickups and have a campsite arranged near town.

-Campers depart from Anchorage on 18 July.  We will drop off at airports.

-For the 19 days in Alaska, we are planning on:

-9 day backpacking trip (intermediate - advanced) in Wrangell St. Elias National Park, including multiple days of glacier travel.
-7-9 days of touring the sites of southern and central Alaska.

For those not interested in backpacking but interested in the trip, Stacy and Ittai will have a fun itinerary in southern Alaska for the backpacking days.  Families welcome and campers of all levels welcome!

-consider tacking your own family trip onto the beginning or the end of the dates above.

-consider the ferry as a fun way to get to/from Alaska.  (Seattle to Skagway).  People pitch tents on the deck of the car ferries.  (We would need to coordinate logistics for the link-up)

Hope to see you there in America's Last Frontier!

  • Estimated cost is $2000 per person for 19 days.  Note that the itinerary includes some fun extras at the end such as the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward, and an all day Fjords / Glacier dinner cruise out of Seward.  Based on the desires of the group, we can consider dropping these excursions to reduce the overall cost.  Depending on the number of participants, the cost could change as rental car and camp site occupancy varies.

  • Check out the draft itineraries and backpacking mapset below.  Note that the mapset shows a 6 day hike planned, but we have 9 days on the itinerary set aside, to allow for unexpected challenges, rest, exploring, etc.
